Videoconferencing network KAWM has done something New Zealand sports teams have proved unable to do in recent times: beaten Australia.
The Ministry of Education-supported and Asnet Technologies-powered network, which links 24 schools for remote lessons, won the Best Teleconferencing Service award at the AIMIA (Australian Interactive Multimedia Industry Association) awards. It was the first time the award has gone to an organisation outside Australia.
KAWM, which stands for Kauapapa ara Whakawhiti Matuaranga, is used mainly to teach and promote Maori culture. It also won a TUANZ education award earlier this year.
