Telecom's last line of defence for users of JetStream, its usage meter, was out of action all weekend.
The usage meter allows users to track how many megabytes of traffic they've used each month – since the service is billed by the amount of traffic an account uses it is important for users to track their usage on a regular basis. Telecom recommends users do monitor their levels of usage so they aren't surprised by the size of the bill when it arrives.
Spokeswoman Mary Parker says the problem with the meter won't affect Telecom's ability to bill end users accurately.
"The meter went offline at 3pm on Friday and was reinstalled at 8pm on Sunday."
Parker says any problems experienced since then are due to overloading as users try to access their account information.
She says the problem was with the "core database" and Telecom worked with a Canadian firm to solve the problem.
