Web mail to defeat viral attack

Auckland-based website hosting company 2Day.com hopes to help ease end user woes by removing the need to constantly update anti-virus software and security patches.

2Day.com has launched a web-based email service with a look and feel users should be used to, according to director Peter Mott.

"It looks just like Outlook so they should know where everything is."

Users pay a fee to have their email redirected from their existing accounts, be they POP3 or IMAP4, but don't have to worry about security issues as 2Day handles all that at the server end.

"It's built on Java so it's very flexible and robust," says Mott who hopes users will be able to make the switch without too much hassle.

2Day.com also offers personalised email addresses for home or work for $2 plus GST a month.
