Dear What am I Worth,

I am in the process of returning to New Zealand from London. I have had four years’ experience in the London banking industry, mainly in the fixed income and equity settlement areas, as an application developer and report writer.

My technical skills are majors in Access, Excel and VBA with some knowledge of SQL, Oracle and mainframe connectivity. I completed a commerce degree at Victoria University in 96.

Spherion Recruitment replies: If your date of return is reasonably flexible, I suggest that you come back around March next year when, hopefully, the market is back to normal and the holidays are well past.

I think you would be best to initially try to get a suitable contract. In that way you can get some current local experience and get a feel for the market. For a permanent role, your salary would be in the range of $50,000 to $65,000 a year.
