The Commerce Commission has released a discussion paper on the role of the commission in the telecommunications environment following the enactment of the new Telecommunications Act.
The Commission will be home to the new telecommunications commissioner who will oversee the new regulations. As previously reported in IDGNet (Telecommunications commissioner appointed), Douglas Webb has been appointed to the role in a five year contract.
The commission says the paper is intended as a guide for interested parties in how the commission will exercise its powers under the act.
"The objective ... is to increase certainty and transparency in respect of the commission's role under the act" says the paper.
Anyone interested in making a submission on the paper should email the commission before February 1.
