Sport beats sex on XtraMSN searches

Kiwis are taking their love of sport online if the top searches on XtraMSN are anything to go by.

Kiwis are taking their love of sport online if the top searches on XtraMSN are anything to go by.

According to XtraMSN spokesman Matt Bostwick the top search terms over the summer months, after "Microsoft" and "Hotmail", were "volvo ocean race", "tennis", "Anna Kournikova" and "golf".

"It seems whenever we have a big event on locally they look for information online," he says.

"Anna Kournikova" jumped from 110th place to 19th during the ASB Bank women's tennis tournament, held earlier this month. Although XtraMSN doesn't give out exact numbers for each search, the latest statistics have 300,000 users searching on XtraMSN during November. Bostwick says the numbers for summer are still being collated.

Although searches for sex-related topics are still popular they don't dominate the ratings the way they used to says Bostwick.
