Dear What Am I Worth,
I will be a new Windows 2000 MCSE graduate in a few weeks and have also attained A+ and N+ accreditation. I am competent in HTML and have a strong understanding of Visual Basic scripting. Windows 2000 is my strength. I am also now teaching myself Lotus Notes and Exchange Server.
Apart from my formal qualifications, most of my experience involves PC repair work through advertising my services. I have had no industry jobs.
Spherion Recruitment replies: I suggest you start immediately to build up a portfolio of your customers outlining the work you have done. Make sure you keep full records of key contacts, dates worked and technologies used. These details will be invaluable in getting yourself into a full-time job.
Your MCSE certification will be useful in opening doors, particularly at the moment when there is a shortage of those qualified in Windows 2000. But beware, this will not last for long. Your initial salary will probably be $30,000 to $40,000 a year, but if you are good at what you do you could expect fairly rapid advancement.
