New Zealander Andy Lark, Sun Microsystems’ head of marketing communications, was among about 90 expatriates at a meeting in Silicon Valley this month to establish a network of Kiwis working in the US.

Organiser Mark Vivian of the Kiwi Expats Association (KEA) says the March event at the University of California in Berkeley attracted twice as many attendees as expected.

Lark has worked at Sun for about two months, since leaving networking equipment maker Nortel.

“The vast majority were from technology or internet companies,” says Wellington-based Vivian, and included representatives of 3D monitor maker Deep Video Imaging and e-commerce software company OrderWare Solutions, formerly Genie Systems, which went into receivership late last year.

KEA is an initiative of of last year’s Knowledge Wave conference in Auckland.
