Dear What am I Worth,
I have just completed a Diploma in Computing at Unitec and am looking to find work in the IT world. I have not got a lot of practical experience apart from assistant tutoring at Unitec, and the practical nature of some of the courses I did which involved configuring and testing small NT4 client/server LANS, W2K LANS, and W2K Intranets with Exchange 2000, and MS Proxy + firewall.
I tend to excel in whatever I do. I also have a business degree, which gives me a true business/computing background. What do you think I am worth? Should I be only trying for helpdesk entry level roles as my best bet at finding employment? I intend to get some certification but not sure if i should try for MCSE or a Cisco cert.
Candle IT& T Recruitment writes: A helpdesk entry role is an excellent introduction to the IT industry depending on the direction you wish to take. You need to decide which direction you would like to now head into. If you are wanting to focus on support roles a helpdesk role would be an initial opportunity which could lead you to network engineering roles in which a MCSE would bring a great addition. Graduate and entry level helpdesk roles generally seek around $35,000.
