Auckland ISP KC BBS was down for two hours this morning as a re-mapping of 0867 numbers from Telecom to its new provider, TelstraClear, took place, technical manager David Dix says.
"We've been moving away from Telecom primary rate ISDN to TelstraClear over the past few months and that involves re-mapping 0867 numbers," says Dix.
KC BBS' 300 customers were notified by email of the problem this morning, Dix says. Asked why KC BBS changed wholesale providers, Dix replied "there are many reasons - ISPs shop around for the best service."
Dix says it is normal for re-mapping, or re-assigning of 0867 numbers by ISPs to result in a delay in getting the service running again.
