An embarrassing glitch occurred at the Moray Place branch of Kiwibank, in Dunedin, during its official opening on April 18.
With former Prime Minister Jim Bolger, Kiwibank's chairman, ready to declare the branch open there was a brief network outage.
The outage involved the PostLink network rather than Kiwibank’s core banking systems, says bank spokesman Jim Thompson. “It did affect a few customers, but only lasted five to 10 minutes."
But this was apparently not the only mishap in Kiwibank’s Dunedin region that week.
Two days earlier, a source says, there was a failure early in the afternoon at the Exchange branch in the city. Dunedin staff called the Wellington head office, but then told inconvenienced customers that Wellington staff “didn’t know what was wrong”.
A reply from Thompson on the second reported failure was still awaited at deadline.
