The Waitakere City Council is coming close to an agreement that will bring broadband communications to the region.
Council staff have been negotiating with four telcos, which they declines to name, though it acknowledges that electricity and communications company UnitedNetworks is one. UnitedNetworks is understood to have the edge.
“There is a report due to go to council soon,” says spokesman John Johnson, though he declines to say specifically that this would represent a final decision as to which telco Waitakere will choose as its partner.
Formally, the other partner in the deal will be Enterprise Waitakere, the city’s economic development agency. But the final decision rests with the council, says an Enterprise Waitakere spokesman.
