IBM New Zealand confirms it has escaped layoffs, while IBM Australia says up to 400 global services staff are in line for redeployment or redundancy.
After sources told Computerworld last week that local jobs were safe, Big Blue officially confirmed the situation late on Thursday.
“The current round of global actions won’t be impacting on IBM locally,” spokesman Jeremy Seed says.
IBM Australia, meanwhile, which has 7000-plus staff, has confirmed that up to 400 employees from its global services division are looking at redeployment options.
A spokesperson says more than 50 employees have already found placements within IBM, adding that there are close to 160 further opportunities on IBM Australia's internal jobs notice board, which are not publicly advertised.
