In a joint project, Vodafone’s New Zealand and Australia operations are implementing PeopleSoft 8 for human resource management.

Vodafone New Zealand had no legacy HR system and Vodafone Australia was looking to upgrade its existing solution so the two companies decided to implement common software across the region. They chose PeopleSoft 8 HRMS, its human resource management software, as being most compatible with their HR strategy.

This includes giving employees visibility of and access to information about themselves through self-service whenever possible.

Vodafone New Zealand human resources director Jan Mottram says the company believes its people are its competitive advantage and key to delivering service excellence to its customers. “As such, having a technology platform that supports the human resource function as well as delivering real value to our internal customers — that is, employees — is essential.

“In addition, the opportunity to have a common platform between our Australian and New Zealand operations will help the business realise some real synergies and manage our talent regionally.”

In New Zealand, Vodafone wanted to replace multiple data entry points, and provide seamless integration between different modules such as training and occupational health and safety. The company wanted a solution that would allow it to incorporate its own technology, such as using SMS text messaging for self-service.

Vodafone anticipates that the regional implementation will make the HR division more efficient, resulting in better use of resources and the delivery of information in real time.

Vodafone has bought a full suite of PeopleSoft 8 HRMS applications, and according to Deb Lees, the project manager for the transtasman implementation, PeopleSoft’s eProfile and eDevelopment were major attractions for the organisations.

“Using the eProfile component of the software, employees can maintain their own personal data, determine how their workflow notifications will be received and eliminate much of the paperwork associated with relocations, reassignments and promotions.”

PeopleSoft eDevelopment is a collaborative application that supports the personal and professional development of employees.
