Dear What Am I Worth,

I am a web design graduate with other skills in networking, software support and database design and management. My background is within administration (five years), with some work experience in designing web pages in my admin roles. This included updating and maintaining publishing standards using HTML for internet and intranet sites.

I have knowledge of XML, DHTML, Javascript and VB Script. My experience, however, is predominantly within an education environment, where practical skills were emphasised.

I am applying for a job as web editor, and have been asked my salary expectations, what might I expect as a range for this position? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Claire

IT@Work replies: We would recommend a salary from $35,000 to $42,000 initially. Unfortunately, opportunities in web design and web editing have dropped in number. Your previous administration and web-related experience will provide you with many transferable skills, but as a fresh graduate in this area, it may be you need to look at a slightly lower salary initially.
