The joint university library IT project Conzulsys has shortlisted two suppliers, both US-based companies. They are Endeavor with its Voyager system and Innovative Interfaces with Millennium.
Victoria University of Wellington is collaborating with the Auckland University of Technology and Waikato and Otago universities on the project (Library group hunts for info system).
“Our library software is reasonably modern, but we’re looking for an upgrade,” says VUW librarian Alan Smith.
The University of Auckland and the National Library use Voyager. An earlier Innovative product is in use at Massey.
Waikato’s library was on track to upgrade to a new product from Data Research Associates when, last year, competitor Sirsi acquired the firm and all development on DRA products ceased.
The Conzulsys project will involve not only joint purchase but also joint hosting of the chosen system.
The universities are working in a consortium, under the aegis of Conzul, the Council of NZ Universitiy Libraries.
Canterbury University only recently upgraded its library systems.
