Thirty-three judges have been pouring over the entries into the Computerworld Excellence Awards and the finalists are due to be announced in early April. A total of 166 entries were received from 77 organisations around the country.

This is more than double the number of entries received last year and establishes the awards as a linchpin event in the IT calendar. The number of sponsors for the event is also up from two to seven, showing the vendor community is also rushing in with full support.

We'll be providing regular coverage leading up to the event, looking at the finalists' projects where possible, and culminating in the gala prize-giving event and special issue of Computerworld on Friday June 23.

Categories include Overall Excellence in the Use of IT, Information Systems Manager of the Year, Technology Innovator of the Year, Excellence in Internet Commerce, Best People Practice in IT, Excellence in the Use of IT in Government and more.
