I've recently moved from Australia to New Zealand. I have been working mainly on corporate information systems for four years, covering all aspects of the system development life-cycle with typical implementations being Visual Basic and Microsoft Access Management Information Systems. I've recently obtained MCP [Microsoft Certified Professional] status (Visual Basic 6 - Designing and Implementing Desktop Applications) and I hold a strong background in SQL and database methodologies.

I hold a Bachelor of Computer Science degree and have learnt many languages including C, C++, Java, Oracle Forms etc as well as Seagate Crystal reports etc. I've also trained end users, produced system documentation and administered Novell accounts, etc. I have a strong practical working knowledge of Windows 95/98, NT, etc. I've spent a year contracting in a partnership that a friend and I began last year and successfully consulted in Visual Basic programming. I've also attended short courses in project management.

If you are interested in moving more into project management an initial salary of around $55,000 is a possibility. However if you are interested in staying in development then around $65,000. Novell administration and application analysis are also options, perhaps at around $45,000 initially.
