The government's new cabinet line-up doesn't hold too many changes for the IT sector, although Steve Maharey has picked up broadcasting responsibility from Marion Hobbs.

Prime Minister Helen Clark announced the new cabinet yesterday afternoon. Maharey, who was Labour's spokesman on both broadcasting and communications when in opposition, is also Minister of Social Services and Employment and Associate Minister of Education.

Paul Swain, Minister of Communications and IT and Associate Minister of Justice, Energy, Finance, Revenue and Land Information gets to take a break from his role as Minister of Commerce, but picks up transport responsibility.

Part of the Government's agenda for this term will be to push through legislation left over from the last parliament, including the Electronic Transactions Bill and the controversial anti-hacking legislation, the Crimes Amendment Bill No 6.
