Toy Box: Ericsson router does the IP business

All-IP networking. It's the way of the future, or so we're told. Mind you, internet protocol-based networks aren't really all that new and TelstraClear for one has just announced an upgrade to its "inter-city and metropolitan IP networks" which includes gear like this.

All-IP networking. It’s the way of the future, or so we’re told. Mind you, internet protocol-based networks aren’t really all that new and TelstraClear for one has just announced an upgrade to its “inter-city and metropolitan IP networks” which includes gear like this.

This being the Ericsson AXI 520-4 IP backbone router, which “unleashes the power of mobility”, apparently. The router will help extend “TelstraClear’s existing ‘private IP’ virtual private network (VPN) service”, the company says. Business customers will be able to integrate voice, data and any other kind of bit (videoconferencing, anyone?) on to one network and pay just one bill. Throughput for the router peaks out at over 80Gbit/s, which should help with all those PowerPoint presentations.

Not perhaps the sexiest toy in the box but certainly one to help you get your business sorted.
