2Day.com makes ICANN status

Auckland domain name specialist, 2day.com has been accredited as an ICANN registrar, meaning it can register .com .net and .org domain names in competition with big players like Network Solutions

Auckland Web hosting and domain name specialist, 2day.com has been accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to register .com .net and .org domain names.

2day.com's self-described "Chief Enthusiast" Peter Mott says his business has processed over 25,000 domain name applications as an agent "and we want to offer our customers a significantly enhanced service."

Mott says he intends to take on big league .com registrar Network Solutions with his company's online automation and "proven experience in building on-line services everybody can understand and use."

Mott's company, which has established a strong reputation among business customers, may be the smallest yet to achieve ICANN status. The new registrar status, ironically, will see closer integration with the US-based shared registry system than it has been able to achieve with the .nz registry.

The 2day.com registrar web site is expected to be open for business as soon as testing with the shared registry system is completed.
