LAN administrator wants expanded career options

I'm a LAN administrator working toward my MCSE. What skills do I need to add to expand my career possibilities, especially in some of the hotter industries?

Dear Adviser,

I've been working as a LAN administrator. I'm working toward my MCSE [Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer] certification. I have also worked with server upgrades, setting up new user accounts, monitoring the network, installing server patches and antivirus updates, doing PC support and troubleshooting.

We have a Windows 95 network using Novell NetWare 5, Microsoft Office 2000 and various Oracle database programs. What skills do I need to add to expand my career possibilities, especially in some of the hotter industries?

Dear Lan Administrator,

It appears that you have come to a stage in your career where you are looking to make a move and feel you need to expand on your skill base.

Completing your MSCE is a move in the right direction and if your are seeking to move your career path into the e-commerce platform you need to work out which modules of the MSCE would help you best to achieve this result.

I believe you should consider completing MS Internet Technologies module first. This could open more doors for and give you the opportunity to gain a position in the hotter industries.
