Security guards to get free software

Free software to help security guards manage site services will soon be available on the Web.

OPSTEC is to release MAPS Lite - a compact version of its MAPS 7 (Mobile Alarm and Patrol Software) in September. The free download will feature basic site management and Incident Reporting.

OPSTEC previously operated as JPSC Software, owned by James Price of Wanganui. Earlier this month a new, expanded company was formed with a wider range of products and services.

MAPS 7 has been slashed from $1295 to $299 and the company also plans a MAPS 2000 package for multi users, with extra site information and reporting tools.

Price, a security guard turned computer programmer, says MAPS 7 was too expensive for individual security guards and it was better to sell it in much larger numbers. The more sophisticated MAPS 2000, due in October, will be "for the big boys" who operate many sites.

His new company, which features friends, software developers and other investors, also offers custom software development, such as developing databases and Web-based applications.

OPSTEC is establishing resellers to market and support its products. It has also produced a Web site - OPSTEC - to help people in the security industry find other information regarding uniforms, accounting software and other equipment.
