Dear What Am I Worth,

I am a post-graduate student studying information science. My previous experience is in development of database and MIS (including SA/SD, documentation, implementation, testing) using Oracle, C and Foxbase for three years; half a year of information system maintenance ( software installation, configuration, troubleshooting, etc.); plus academic research.

Through my course, I'm getting familiar with OO programming, UML, CORBA, client server architecture, Web-page design and other up-to-date technology, as well as a wide range of programming languages and software like Java, Delphi, HTML, etc. I am wondering what I will be worth when I complete my course.

Intellimark replies: Your previous commercial experience with Oracle and C puts you in a good position to find a role that will incorporate your existing skills, along with the latest technologies you have been studying. If you are interested in going in to a development role, with your Oracle background you could probably look at a starting salary of around $50,000. Candidates with solid commercial experience in CORBA and Java can earn anywhere from $65,000.
