The New Zealand Maori Internet Society has elected its second interim chairperson in a month following the sudden resignation of Bernadette Murray for personal reasons.
New chair, Richard Orzecki, says the first order of business for the society is to hold an AGM where members can discuss proposed revisions to its constitution.
"The society was set up a few years ago now and there are some changes that need to be made. I'm keen to see the members more involved rather than just the committee."
One of the main goals of the society, to see the introduction of a new second level domain (2LD) name .maori.nz, will be achieved later this week when the new 2LD goes live tomorrow at 11am.
"It's a bit unfortunate we've got this change of personnel just as that's happening really," says Orzecki.
The society's interim committee will continue to run the society until the AGM when a new committee will be formally elected.
The society has bought the first four names under the new .maori.nz level - www.maori.nz, internet.maori.nz, nzmis.maori.nz and ipurangi.maori.nz.
