Dear What Am I Worth,

I have three years’ solid experience within the IT industry, in a job which developed from admin to customer service, and finally to product management and sales support.

I do not have any qualifications above School Certificate.

My job entails consulting resellers on solutions, managing product information, adjusting pricing margins to suit and customer service.

I also liase with vendors and end users on a daily basis. I have good industry knowledge, and can supply third-level technical support.

Elan IT replies: You appear to have some very valuable experience, though your earning power is very dependent on the type of environment you wish to work in and then where you wish to direct your career.

Your current role could be called anything from sales administration in some organisations, which would carry a salary of around $30,000 to $38,000, to commercial manager, which could carry a salary of $50,000 to $55,000.

From your background I imagine you could go in one of two directions, either sales or technical sales, or a purely technical role. My recommendation is that if you wish to pursue the technical side, qualifications are a must.
