IT employers can expect more professionalism when seeking staff if a careers site run by recruiters lives up to its promise.
The site has been launched by the Information Technology Contract and Recruitment Association (ITCRA), a professional body covering the recruitment industry in Australia and New Zealand.
ITCRA executive director Norman Lacy says that because IT2 only lists jobs supplied from its members it is “the only jobs board awhere advertisers are committed to professional codes and ethics”. This means the jobs are real and never “phantom” positions created simply to lure potential candidates, he says, claiming this is not always the case with other job boards.
Lacy says employers who use recruiters listed on the site are guaranteed that certain ethical standards are met, and that the website has a wide reach.
During July and August the site listed a daily average of 1152 jobs, with Lacy claiming it received 65,000 visits over the two months and 31,000 unique visits. Some 4600 candidates applied for jobs online and 1852 signed up for a jobs alert service to receive an email when a certain type of job was listed. IT2 also offers KnowledgeNet online training, resume and interview tips and profiles on recruitment companies.
Melbourne-based ITCRA began in 1998 and started seeking New Zealand members a year ago. They now number 19. Recruiters said they wanted to join a new professional body to boost the image of the Kiwi recruitment industry.
Some recruiters felt the existing local body, the New Zealand Recruitment and Consultants Association (RCSA), “lacked teeth”, although others appear happy to remain members.
IT2 provides an alternative to other job websites, including Netcheck, JobNet, Seek, INL’s JobStuff and IDG’s own JobUniverse.
