Hitachi Data Systems has launched a 37 terabyte (TB) storage system, Freedom Storage 9900, which is claimed to be five times faster than its predecessor, the Freedom Storage 7700E.

The Lightning 9900 lets customers consolidate five storage systems into one system and automate management tasks. It gives them fewer storage systems to manage and they can standardise consistent practices using one interface.

HDS storage solutions project manager Ross Harper says the new device reduces per megabyte administration costs by 40%.
