Radio spectrum technical officer

My job involves technical radio and TV problems, working with a range of people from the general public through to technical experts.

Dear What Am I Worth,

I’m 38 and work as a technical officer managing radio spectrum. This involves technical radio and TV problems, working with a range of people from the general public through to technical experts.

I have an NZCE (telecommunications), and am two papers away from a BIT degree. I have several years' experience with Foxpro and Visual Foxpro, with which I have developed and maintained an inhouse information system. This has been a large element of my job for the past 10 years. I have limited experience with C++, Java and Pascal and project management. I am looking for a position in the IT industry but am not really sure what I want yet. Could you please advise what area my skills/experience are be best suited for, and approximate salary level.

David Palmer of Alliance IT Recruitment replies: Given your development exposure, development would be logical. Expect to start around $45,000 + but to progress quickly once you have proven your skills.
