Trade New Zealand says interest in a proof-of-concept tender for a staff portal has been high.
"There were some good quality responses and we're in the process of assessing them," says Trade NZ CIO Hans Frauenlob.
The internal portal, which aims to address the organisation's desire to improve "corporate information retrieval and sharing", will be completely separate from Trade NZ's external client portal.
Trade NZ's impending merger with Industry New Zealand is another reason for building an internal portal, Frauenlob says. "It will be an internally-facing enterprise portal for the benefit of staff of both organisations."
Frauenlob wouldn't comment directly on what the merger will mean for Trade NZ and Industry NZ's hardware and software systems, but says "any organisation that's merging faces challenges in terms of disparate networks and databases etc". From that perspective, a joint portal will be useful, he says.
"A portal offers the promise of being able to mitigate some of that."
The merger of Trade NZ and Industry NZ was approved in principle by the government in September. The new organisation is expected to be up and running by the middle of next year.
