SAP boss not sailing into town

A press conference in Auckland on Friday, which was to have been hosted by SAP boss Hasso Plattner (pictured) with members of Team New Zealand, will be minus the software executive.

SAP Sydney-based spokeswoman Jennifer Roach says Plattner's attendance hadn't been confirmed when invitations to the event were emailed a week ago. Subsequently, Plattner became unavailable.

Newly appointed Australia and New Zealand SAP boss Geraldine McBride will preside over the event, the day before racing in the America's Cup is due to get under way. SAP is a Team New Zealand sponsor.

Rumours abound in the German media that Plattner, whose contract expires next year, is likely to resign. He was absent from a news conference last month announcing the group’s fourth-quarter results. He was sailing.

“Contrary to what everyone is saying, Hasso isn’t Amtsmüde [German for senior people growing tired of their strenuous jobs and thinking about retirement],” company spokeswoman, Laurie Doyle-Kelly says. “He isn’t retiring.”

The company’s fourth-quarter profit jumped 49% to $US497 million, on sales that were down 2%.
