Forestry products company Carter Holt Harvey claims revamping its corporate website and taking it inhouse will save $40,000 a year in content management costs.

The site, which was previously hosted and managed by BearingPoint, formerly KPMG Consulting, has been moved on to CHH’s existing Vignette content management system. The CHH group operates more than 70 internet and intranet sites throughout its 26 businesses. Web Site Management Application (WSMA) software, initially developed by IT consulting group Intelligroup to make the Vignette interface easier to use, was also upgraded so end users can log in and change content on the fly.

Simon Mitchell, who managed the project, says the move means the company no longer has to pay anyone to make even minor changes to the site.

Mitchell says the redesign and development cost about $90,000. The revamped site was designed by Wellington-based Shift and developed by CHH’s Oxygen Business Solutions IT subsidiary.

The corporate website, which was suffering some response glitches last week, attracts 14,000 unique visitors each month.
