Foundry fits for law firm: Fogg

Law firm Simpson Grierson took a leaf out of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ book when it chose Foundry Networks gear for a network upgrade.

IS director Valerie Fogg says PwC was one of the reference sites the firm talked to, along with Weta Digital. Simpson Grierson will deploy Foundry’s FastIron 4802 and FastIron II wiring closet switches to replace the 3Com hubs it has been running since 1994.

3Com was considered during the replacement evaluation process, Fogg says, “but they’ve moved on since then”.

Cisco Systems was also a contender, but the firm went with Foundry in the end “because we liked all the additional functionality that’s possible for the future. We felt Foundry was better suited to us and we got better pricing and value; we got higher specification gear from Foundry than Cisco.”

The Simpson Grierson implementation is enabled for voice over IP and videoconferencing, but Fogg says the latter is a higher priority.
