The University of Auckland has kicked off what it believes is the country's first course in building data warehouses under the Bachelor of Business Information Management degree.
The university is running a six-week hands-on laboratory programme to teach students how to design and implement systems using Oracle products Data Warehouse Builder, 9i Application Server Portal and Discoverer.
The third-year lab sessions begun last month will also teach how to design business applications, says lecturer Ami Peiris.
She says students will analyse a business case study, then build a data warehouse and set up a portal to deliver business intelligence to an organisation.
About 120 students have enrolled in this semester's business intelligence and decision support systems course.
