Boot-powered cellphones?

A British academic has invented walking boots that can power cellphones, personal stereos and other electrical equipment.

Mobile phones are about to get the boot - power that is.

Dr Jim Gilbert of Britain's Hull University has invented walking boots that use dynamos to power cellphones, personal stereos and other electrical equipment.

Trevor Baylis, inventor of the clockwork radio, originally thought of the idea.

He now plans to market the shoes for $NZ300 a pair after testing them this month in the Namibian desert.

The British Army has also expressed an interest in buying them to make troops more independent.
