As featured on TVNZ's Fair Go programme last night, an Auckland-based company running a "corporate computer sellout" is trading under a name similar to Computerworld publication.
In a flyer sent out by the company, it claims the computers are supplied by "COMPUTERWORLD" and "SIGMA COMPUTERS (Est 8 Years), 95 St GEORGE ST, PAPATOETOE."
The typeface used is similar to that used by this magazine and the trader has also been running radio and newspaper advertisments.
Legal staff acting for IDG, publishers of Computerworld, contacted Sigma, who replied they were a reseller for Computer World Limited PCs.
Enquiries by IDG have found Computer World Limited was incorporated only on July 10.
Paul Low is listed as the shareholder/director with a registered office in Farnham Street, Parnell.
Legal papers have been served on the company to try and prevent further trading under the Computer World name.
Bob Pinchin, publisher for IDG, stresses Computerworld magazine and IDG have no association with the sale or the Computer World company.
"It has absolutely nothing to do with us and the machines have nothing to do with us," he says.
A spokeswoman for Low said he declined to comment.
