Jade is preparing to cash in on Australian businesses' grief and confusion over GST with an addition to its JadeDirect ASP service.
The company has built and begun to market an online GST cashbook in Australia. The product will be sold through Australian accounting firms and is due to be rolled out to end users within weeks.
Jade has registered the name gstdirect.net for use as a home for the product. The name gstdirect.co.nz has also been registered - but the restrictive nature of Australian registry rules made it too difficult to register gstdirect.com.au, says Jade spokesman Greg Williamson.
The company also recently staked out the ground around the name of its founder and CEO, registering gilsimpson.com and gilsimpson.co.nz.
"It's more a protective thing than anything else," says Williamson. "There's a big Gil area on the Jade Website and it redirects to that. We thought we'd get in now - because he's a brand in himself."
But shouldn't that be sirgilsimpson.com?
