The fourth annual Telecommunications and ICT conference kicks off today in Auckland with speakers from all the major telcos as well as the Telecommunications Commissioner and the minister Paul Swain.
Around 100 attendees are expected at the two-day event, according to conference organiser Cliff Freeman.
The conference will begin with a video link presentation from MIT professor Jerry Hausman, a telecommunications expert who has advised several countries on regulatory regimes as well as testifying before Congress and the Federal Communications Commission on issues like broadband and mobile infrastructure development.
Hausman will discuss various issues including the rollout of broadband internationally as well as New Zealand specific issues like pricing and regulatory matters.
After lunch on day one a CEO panel will include the chiefs of Telecom, TelstraClear, Walker Wireless, BCL, Nortel and Vodafone who will be discussing the implications of changes to the market in New Zealand.
