Dear What am I Worth,

I am 35 years old and have a Bachelors Degree in mathematics. I have worked in the industry for 13 years. I started as an analyst/programmer moving into a technical support/helpdesk role for a corporate and being in a team implementing and supporting an ERP system of over 200 users over multiple sites.

I work for an SME as a systems manager based in Wellington and have been in this role for five years. My job includes systems administration and equipment repair, support of ERP software, managing vendors and maintenance contracts, establishing budgets, performing audits, implementing IT projects, developing IT policies and end-user training.

We have a network of 40 PCs and four NT servers over two sites. I am familiar with NT 4, Win 95, MS Office, email gateway software, proxy server software and ERP packages (not SAP or JDE).

Candle IT&T replies: You have a wide variety of duties within your role, which leads me to assume that you have sole responsibility for IT within your company. I would anticipate you earning between $55,000 and $65,000. To earn more than this, you would have to look to getting a job in a larger organisation with more technical complexity.
