A new e-procurement portal will offer 2500 schools cost savings through bulk buying of goods and services.
The New Zealand School Trustees Association (NZSTA) e-procurement portal STAbuy is being piloted over the next two months.
NZSTA general manager Ray Newport says STAbuy will be implemented as an e-procurement solution in the first instance, but will quickly migrate to a social portal which will provide schools and boards of trustees with other features, such as online chat facilities and an exchange facility.
Newport says schools will stand to make significant savings within their operational grant funding as a result of leveraging the purchasing power of some 2,500 schools.
Feedback from boards of trustees has identified IT hardware and software, as well as stationery, as the types of products suitable for purchasing through a portal.
Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGEY) is building and implementing the portal for NZSTA, which is based around Oracle e-procurement software.
