New Zealand geeks can get their new domain names from August 26.
The geek.nz second-level domain will become available that day from 11am, according to domain name commissioner Debbie Monahan. It will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Although the registry system won’t accept new geek.nz registrations until then, it’s possible some domain name registrars will accept pre-requests from customers and attempt to register them once the domain becomes available.
Monahan says the shared registry will be shut down briefly before the release time so all registrars can have access to the new domain at the same time.
