A Newmarket cooking supplies store has been judged best virtual store.
The www.epicurean.co.nz site beat major rivals Woolworths and Carters in the Top Shops awards, run by the Retail Merchants Association of New Zealand. The judges say the site, developed by Auckland-based Webenz, is easy to find and navigate and is informative.
The site started 10 months ago as an extension to an existing mail order catalogue and cooking class programme. The site features a virtual tour of the store, lists the range of products and services available at the store and has its own search engine.
The Epicurean Workshop is owned by Catherine Bell, who also writes cookery books. She says the online store allows customers the same level as service as actually visiting it in person.
