As Computerworld Online reported last week (Monster neither confirms nor denies pullout), Monster Australia's deal with NineMSN has collapsed leading to the closure of both Australian and New Zealand operations. Around 40 staff have lost their jobs and visitors to the Monster New Zealand website are redirected to the US site. Monster public relations firm August. One would not comment on job losses specific to New Zealand and calls to Monster itself went unanswered.
However, Frog Recruiting, set up by industry veteran Jane Kennelly, is making the most of the internet which is, according to Kennelly, the perfect medium for today's job market.
"The new generation of job hunters is more than comfortable with online job applications. There are some roles that still require a more traditional approach but most are happy online."
Kennelly says the convenience and ease of use of online job applications means jobs advertised on the net will often attract more respondents than traditional advertising.
"We try to overlay a strong degree of personalisation, because some organisations are pretty bad at quick responses, acknowledgement of applications, that kind of thing. The net makes that so much easier."
