Hitwise - a net statistics service has been launched after two months of beta testing.

The site- www.hitwise.co.nz- provides rankings across 130 interest and industry categories.

It works by analysing proxy logs directly from ISPs to provide an indication of website popularity. Hitwise captures data from more than 35% of New Zealand's internet population and can monitor more than 30,000 local and international websites, says international business director Brendan McKeegan.

Rankings can be published on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, allowing businesses to immediately track spikes and troughs in website activity as well as analyse longer term trends.

After the New Zealand launch, McKeegan says launches will follow in Asia and Europe.

Developed by Sinewave Interactive of Australia, the company has partnered with Auckland-based online advertising agency Brave New World for the Kiwi launch.
