Software test analyst

Dear What Am I Worth,

I am an Irish software test analyst based in Sydney. At present I earn $A55 an hour. I have more than three years' software testing experience, including 18 months on an e-commerce website.

I have used automated testing tools such as Mercury's WinRunner suite and Rational's SQA Suite. My software experience includes planning of test specifications for others and myself, test co-ordination and presentation of test results to management. I have worked on financial services industry software, Y2k testing, euro currency transition testing, web-based testing and interactive voice response testing.

I am test leader working with six other testers.

I will be relocating to Auckland and am wondering what my worth as contractor or permanent employee might be, and whether there is a shortage or glut in the IT employment market.

De Winter International replies: There is good demand for testers, paying in the $50 to $60 an hour range, and as much as $70 an hour for a team leader. Sadly our currency is not as strong as Australia's, but there are no snakes and few poisonous spiders here.
