No action on domain name confusion

The country’s internet domain name registry has decided to hold off on taking action against a local company for allegedly passing off.

Domainz (www.domainz.net.nz) was concerned a six month-old company with a similar name may have been confusing consumers who thought they were dealing with Domainz.

The Internet Domain Name Registry (www.domains.nzco.net), part of Maxum Corporation, has been selling .nzco.net as sub-domains of .net.

Domainz chairman Bob Gray says a board meeting has decided taking action would not be appropriate at this stage.

“If people do complain we will certainly take issue,” Gray says.
