Mobile telephony giant Ericsson and local company Synergy International have formed a joint venture to develop mobile internet applications that will provide 150 jobs in Wellington and Auckland.

Mobile telephony giant Ericsson and local company Synergy International have formed a joint venture to develop mobile internet applications that will provide 150 jobs in Wellington and Auckland.

The announcement of the new venture, to be known as Ericsson-Synergy, caps off a big week for the government's knowledge-economy drive.

At the official announcement of Ericsson-Synergy this afternoon, the chief executive of the new company, Stephen Crombie, paid tribute to Minister for Economic Development Jim Anderton, Research, Science and Technology Pete Hodgson and the agencies Industry New Zealand, Trade New Zealand and Investment New Zealand for their "enthusiastic support" for the venture.
