With Flying Pig boss Mark Battles as finance chief, the internet gift coupon company offers vouchers from retailers including Bendon, Marbecks, Belle Image, George, Balanced Bodies, Bennett & Bain and Servilles.

The New Zealand-owned business allows computer users to browse and select the retailer from whom they want to buy a gift voucher. They can then add a message if they wish and pay for the voucher by credit card. The voucher is despatched by the designated retailer to the recipient who simply presents it back at the store. To redeem it, the voucher must be signed off and a suitable ID presented.

Bendon country manager Howard George says the system allows people to buy without visiting a store.

Founder and chief executive Rodney Morton says his website is equipped with secure systems and an automated e-mail system that notifies the relevant retailer of an approved sale.

"It's a simple, proven way of avoiding the bad gift," he says.
