Qualifications in Business Computing

  • Certificate of Business Computing
The programme aims to develop competent people capable of being a Junior Programmer or Support Staff. The programme includes courses ranging from inter-personal skills to knowledge of PC's and some programming.

Duration: 1 year

Entry requirements: There are no formal academic requirements. Previous education and/or work experience is taken into account. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed the Seventh Form. Mature students are welcome.

Diplomas

  • New Zealand Diploma in Business – credits towards the Bachelor of Management (University of Waikato)
The New Zealand Diploma in Business, if obtained with a B average, gains entrance to the third year of the four years BMS (University of Waikato). The required papers are very specific and students should ensure their programme of study is the correct one.

Duration: 2 years

Entry requirements: Either 18 or less in 6th Form Certificate in the best four subjects; or Bursary/University Entrance; or relevant work experience if over 20.

  • New Zealand Diploma in Business Studies - credits towards the Bachelor of Business Studies (Massey University)
The New Zealand Diploma in Business Studies will give you a broad base of business knowledge for entry into the workforce, or as a stepping stone to further study.

Students may major in subjects such as Management and Computing.

Duration: 2 years full time

Entry requirements: Either 18 or less in 6th Form Certificate in the best four subjects; or Bursary/University Entrance; or relevant work experience if over 20.

  • New Zealand Institute of Management – Diploma in Management
The programme is made up of eight papers, five of which are compulsory and three are optional. All papers are part of the New Zealand Diploma in Business and many students study for both qualifications simultaneously.

Duration: 18 months full time

Entry Requirements: Either NZIM Certificate in Management or suitable work experience if over 20; or if under 20, a total of 18 or less in 6th Form Certificate over the best four subjects.

Degrees

  • Bachelor of Applied Information Systems
This programme seeks to produce competent Information Systems Developers or Information Systems Support people. Nine of the 19 papers are compulsory and cover a core of support, development, communications, accounting and project management.

Duration: 3 years

Entry Requirements: have satisfied the criteria for entrance to a degree programme offered by a New Zealand University or Polytechnic; have obtained no fewer than 80 credits at level three or above for Unit Standards registered on the National Qualifications Framework; have been awarded a certificate in Business Computing; be at least 20 years of age at the start of the programme in the year of entry; have been granted provisional admission by the Faculty of Business Studies Board of Studies; have been granted ad eundum status.

Career Opportunities: We are training people for jobs in areas such as Information Systems Development and Support. Successful completion of this Degree may qualify you for entry into Masters degree programmes.

  • Bachelor of Business
The Bachelor of Business programme contains majors in

· Accounting

· Management

· Marketing

Taranaki Polytechnic will offer face-to-face tuition for higher level papers within these majors. The Bachelor of Business Degree also offers majors in Information Systems Technology and Employment Relations. Taranaki Polytechnic is not currently offering supported classes for these majors. Students wanting more information should contact The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand directly.

A student receives comprehensive course material from the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand and can attend the session as scheduled by Taranaki Polytechnic. The Open Polytechnic of New Zealand carries out your assessments, including the final examination.

It is expected that students will complete the relevant New Zealand Diploma in Business papers to achieve the pre-requisites to enter into higher level papers. Cross crediting arrangement into the Bachelor of Business introductory courses will apply.
