Qualifications in Business Computing

  • CBC, DipBC and NDBC
These three qualifications can stand alone, or lead on to each other.

The first year is the Certificate in Business Computing (CBC). The second year is the Diploma in Business Computing (DipBC). The third year is the National Diploma in Business Computing (NDBC).

Duration: CBC full-time, day or evening class options (33 study weeks); DipBC full-time, part-time (33 study weeks or equivalent part-time), NDBC, full-time, (33 study weeks or equivalent part-time),

Entry requirements: CBC - open entry; DipBC - CBC graduates; NDBC - DipBC graduates.

Career opportunities: A variety of Information Technology fields including, systems analysis, programming, network administration, sales and marketing.

Diplomas

  • Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Diploma in Business (BOPPDipBus)
  • New Zealand Diploma in Business (NZDip Bus)
The New Zealand Diploma provides an NZQA recognised qualification for students aspiring to management positions.

Duration: Two years full-time study or part-time equivalent is usually required to complete the requirement of passes in twelve papers, including six compulsory papers. At the end of year one students who have successfully completed six New Zealand Diploma in Business papers will be awarded a Bay of Plenty Polytechnic Diploma in Business.

Content: The six compulsory papers cover accounting, commercial law, economics, organisation and management and computer concepts

Entry requirements: Sixth Form Certificate total of 20 or less in best four subjects. This requirement may be waived for students over 20 years.

Career opportunities: Employment in a wide range of industries within the business community.

  • New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM) Diploma in Management
The NZIM Diploma in Management requires the successful completion of eight papers from the New Zealand Diploma in Business (NZDipBus).

Entry requirements: Sixth Form Certificate total of 20 or less in best four subjects. This requirement may be waived for students over 20 years.

Career/employment opportunities: Further tertiary study and employment in a wide range of industries within the business community.

Degrees

  • Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS)
An articulation agreement between the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic and The University of Waikato provides a direct pathway into the third year of the University's four-year BMS degree. A prescribed package comprising 13 New Zealand Diploma in Business Studies (NZDipBus) papers and one University paper (Information and Management Decision Making) must be completed with a "B" Grade average and with no less than "B" Grade passes in papers of the intended major subject. Students must complete all of the following 10 core papers (Section A) and four of the papers from Section B.

From 2001 The University of Waikato will deliver the third year of this degree in Tauranga and from 2002 both the third and fourth years.

Entry requirements: Sixth Form Certificate total of 20 or less in best four subjects. This requirement may be waived for students over 20 years.

Career/employment opportunities: Varied fields, including accounting, finance, economics, management and marketing.
